![]() ![]() Contamination is the #1 cause of diesel injection system failure. Clean is the name of the game here gentlemen. The glass towels are lint free, and are used for assembly. A roll of scott's blue shop towel AND a roll of scotts blue GLASS towels. i used a vinyl tube, melted and fused on one end to seal, and shoved them over each port A creative solution to plugging the inlet and outlet port of the injectors. Ultrasonic cleaner filled with diesel for cleaning. Crescent wrench locked in a vice to hold the injector on the flats i got the correct ones for the 648 on ebay from a guy from Latvia. For those of you interested, om628 v8 injector nozzle (higher fuel flow= more power) part number is 433171717. and with a cost of only $36 a piece for the nozzles, i figured why not.įirst things first: injector nozzle part number for the om648 is 433171800. Why rebuild all of them? lots of black smoke and increased fuel consumption. I got around last week to rebuilding all 6 of my injectors last week. if they are, its not worth just changing the nozzle. before attempting any of this, check your injectors with a leak back test to make sure that none of them are leaking off excessively. but the most common leak back cause is the ball seat either being damaged or worn too much. So, my recommendation is that if you're going to end up using a 647 injector to replace your 648 injector, follow my guide here and change your nozzle!Įxcessive leak off is caused from a couple different things: excessive nozzle wear, causing more fuel than normal to leak back up and out the return. i said COULD because i have no idea what the actual difference between the nozzles are other than the part number. HOWEVER, with 23000 psi injection pressure, there are a whole factor of things that could be different from fuel flow per injection, to spray pattern. They look identical to the naked eye, and mount into the same injector body identically. The om647 injectors take a different nozzle as i stated above. However, i would definitely recommend changing the nozzle if you end up doing that. Om647 injectors DO work as a drop in replacement for the om648 injectors, i ran one in my CDI on cyl #5 for 10k miles. There are reman's readily available on ebay and from local diesel shops for around $150. om647 injectors are readily available in the US due to their use in sprinter vans. since the om646 was never sold in the US market, i will stick to the om647 and om648. Technically speaking, the om646/647/648 injectors are interchangeable. Make sure both the injector seat on the head is clean and flush. Anything additional risks breaking the bolt or stripping the head. But just a couple tips: bolt torque spec is 7nm+ 90 degrees. There are numerous guides on how to do this already. I will not be covering the removal or installation of the injectors in the car. Study this thoroughly to get a really good understanding on how these injectors function and what can go wrong. ![]() Here's an informational video on the function of our diesel injectors. ![]() So, for that reason i will be tailoring this guide to the inline engines. the om642 injectors aren't really any different in function, but none of the parts are available, not even nozzles. This is for om648, om647, and om646 owners.
